WORLD TOURISM DAY THEME 2020
With the theme “Tourism and Rural Development“, World Tourism Day 2020 will play a unique role in providing opportunities outside the big cities and in preserving the cultural and natural heritage around the world.
This year’s international review comes at a crucial moment as countries around the world seek tourism for recovery, including rural communities, and the region is a major employer and economic pillar, providing jobs and opportunities, especially for women and youth.
Development through tourism will keep rural communities active. By 2050, it is estimated that 68% of the world’s population will live in urban areas, while 80% of people now live in cities and live in extreme poverty outside the cities.
This situation is especially difficult for young people: young people in rural communities are three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. Tourism is a way of life that allows young people to live without migrating to their home country or abroad.
World Tourism Day 2020 will be celebrated by UNWTO member states, private sector organizations, and individual tourists in all parts of the world, cities, and elsewhere. This is because communities in rural areas are also adapting to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic. These communities are generally too small to deal with the short- and long-term effects of a crisis. Many factors contribute to this, including their growing population, low-income levels, and continuous ‘digital segmentation’. Tourism offers solutions to all these challenges.
For the first time in the 40-year history of World Tourism Day, the celebration will be hosted by a member state of the United Nations special agency. Instead, the Mercosur bloc (Chile with observer status from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) will act as the United Nations. This co-hosting agreement is a reflection of the international solidarity that tourism is going through, and the UNWTO is considering reclaiming it.
The journey envisions expanding the mind, exploring the world, and exploring the peoples of the world to broader boundaries and cultures. Tourism can describe travels, both foreign and domestic, and it has been going on for a long time as a human being.
Tourism Day is an opportunity to expand your world a little and find a place you have always wanted to travel and finally find the time for it. To find your inner traveler and get out of there and experience the places you always want to see.
