WHAT IS FREEDOM OF PRESS?

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY HISTORY

In December 1993, the United Nations General Assembly established the World Cup Independence Day as a result of a symposium promoting the free and plural African press. In 1991, the seminar in Namibia approved the Windhoek Declaration on the promotion of free and multiple media.

The Windhoek Declaration called for the establishment, maintenance and nurturing of an independent, pluralistic and independent medium. It emphasized the importance of an independent medium for the development, stability and economic development of democracy in a country. World Press Freedom Day is observed on 3 May, the date on which Windhoek declares its acceptance.

Although World Press Freedom Day has been celebrated since 1993, it has deep roots in the United Nations. WHY WE CELEBRATE PRESS FREEDOM DAY

Journalists, media organizations, world leaders and news consumers alike gathered on social media on Friday to celebrate World Press Freedom Day and journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty.
