Parental Pressure
In this article, we will discuss an important topic, Parental Pressure, and its causes & effects. We live in a world where we are constantly asked to perform better, to further push our limits in order to become better versions of ourselves. We all strive harder day after day to achieve what we started.
While achieving our goals, there are certain people in our lives motivating us along the way. These are the people who have chosen to never give up on us. Obviously, our parents are the greatest support.
Every parent wants their kid to achieve wonders in life. They put all of their efforts, money, time on their kids. They put their life savings to educate their kids. But while doing so, parents start planning bright futures for their children. And in order to achieve that, they want them to be toppers in school, in college and in higher studies too. They want them to study hard, get good grades in all of the subjects. They constantly remind their kids about how they vision them as future millionaires or future billionaires.
While it may feel normal to the parents, sometimes the kids feel a lot of pressure on their heads. They constantly work hard to stand up to parents expectations, to work towards making their parents happy and achieving good results. A little sign on disappointment on the mother’s face, disheartens the kid and sometimes puts him under pressure to perform better. Well, we all know how hard it is to give your 100 percent under pressure. This results in the deteriorating performance of the kid.
Parents do not understand, their kid might excel in some other field. They close all other options except education. They suppress their kids talent just to fulfill the goals they have set for the child.
Sometimes, parents do not realise the pressure they’ve put their kids under and make things worse for them. They start scolding them, constantly pestering them, making their schedules, interfering in their lives. Kids, already unhappy with themselves, unable to impress their own parents, gradually start losing their inner confidence. They slowly drift away from their parents. This sometimes result in children getting depressed. Or in some cases, they become rebels and choose a totally different path of their own interest.
However, to prevent all of this from happening, parents should keep in mind that there is a fine line between parenting and parental pressure and they should not cross that. Make sure the kids do not feel that pressure. Also, parents should understand there are others options in life for the child to pursue. “Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid”. So, find out what interests the child and let him find his way up the ladder.
So keep pushing your kid to achieve higher goals in life. Just do not cross the line where pushing becomes pressuring.
Happy parenting!!
