Representing decimals on a number line

Represent 3.5 on a number line.

We know that 3.5 is more than 3 and less than 4. Now divide the unit length of 3 and 4 into ten parts and mark the 5th part as shown in the figure below. Now you can represent 3.5 on a number line. Place Value

Decimal contains two parts whole numbers and decimals. The decimal point is a point that separates both parts. The numbers of places in decimal parts give a number of decimal places. 10 ones = 1 ten

10 tens= 1 hundred

10 hundred= 1 thousand

Place value of 4 at thousands place = 4 *1000= 4000

Place value of 4 at hundreds place = 4 *100= 400

Place value of4 at tens place = 4 *10= 40

Place value of4 at one place = 4 *1= 4

As in the diagram when we move to the right number, the place value of a digit become for each place.

Place value of 4 at tenth place = 4 *= = 0.4 Practice Decimal with worksheets, exercises, and activity games. Click Online Class 6 Maths Decimals for details.
