(iii) Why are human resources important?

Answer: Human beings are important as a resource because they have the ability to extract value from all other resources. They can make the best use of nature to create more resources, because they have the knowledge, skills and techniques to do so. Education and health help to make man a valuable resource.

 (iv) What is sustainable development?

Answer: Balancing the need to use resources and conserve them for the future is called sustainable development. The future of our planet and its people is tied to our ability to maintain and protect our life support system which nature provides. Sustainable development occurs when all renewable resources are continuously used, the diversity of life on Earth is preserved and the natural environmental system is harmed and saved for generations to come.
