Why did Bepin Babu worry about what Parimal Ghose had said?

Answer:

Bepin Babu was constantly worried about what Parimal Ghosh had said as he showed that he knew many intimate facts about her. He was aware of the bag of books, the death of his wife and the insanity of his brother. Given that Parimal Ghosh knew so much about him, Bipin Babu could not say with conviction that he was making a mistake about the Ranchi visit.

Answer:

He tried to decide whether his memory was correct or Parimal Ghosh looking at his right knee where Parimal claimed there would be a cut. There was definitely an old cut mark. Then, he decided to ask Dinesh Mukherjee, who according to Parimal Ghosh was with him in Ranchi. He felt that asking him would end his confusion.

Answer:

Bepin Babu hesitated to meet Mr. Dinesh Mookerjee as he was afraid of the ruthless sarcasm that he would have to face. He felt that if the whole story about Ranchi had been false, Mr. Mukherjee would have thought he had gone mad.With the bookstore constantly troubled by the incident and having no other means to verify Primal Ghosh’s claims, Bepin Babu finally decided to ask Mr. Mukherjee. However, they decided to call him as his embarrassment would not show up later.

Mr. Mookerjee said that he actually went to Ranchi in ’58. This increased Bipin Babu’s concern as he could not find out how he could forget about the journey.

Dr. Chanda was surprised as she had never dealt with a case like Bipin Babu. This was outside his field of experience. The unusual thing in Bepin Babu’s case was that he remembered everything except one particular incident of his past. Dr. Chanda said that Bipin Babu must have gone to Ranchi. However, due to some unknown reason, the entire episode slipped from his mind.

The author has described Bipin Babu as a serious and hardworking man. He worked daily in his office. It was a large firm and was doing a responsible job. He was with the firm for twenty-five years. He had the reputation of being a tireless, dutiful worker.

Question 2:

Why did Bepin Babu change his mind about meeting Chunilal? What was the result of this meeting?

Answer:

Bipin Babu changed his mind about meeting Chunnilal as he felt that it might be possible that the latter would remember something about the Ranchi visit. When Chunnilal confirmed that Bipin Babu was going to Ranchi, Bipin Babu decided to see a specialist doctor.
