1) What kind of a person was Evans?

Answer: Evans was a congenital kleptomaniac and was imprisoned in Oxford. He was a prison escape guru nicknamed ‘Evans the Break.’ His plan and foresight was a genius. He was very cunning and had a lot of friends and contacts to escape. He was also a very good actor because when he played as McLeery, no one doubted him.

2) Did the Governor and his staff finally heave a sigh of relief?

Answer: The Governor and his staff were unable to raise a soul because the vigilant was bleeding in Evans’ cell shortly after the test was over. Evans seemed to have hurt him and fled the prison in McLeery’s guise.

3) Where was Evans going?

Answer: Evans has gone to Chipping Norton and returned to the Golden Lion Hotel after a walk through Chipping Norton centre.

4) Reflecting upon the story, what do you feel about Evans having the last laugh?

Answer: Evans is a genius and master in his escape planning. He uses every kind of tactics-psychology, emotion, good acting skills, persuasion and friendliness — to fulfil his plan. The governor cannot prevent his escape, although he is overcautious. He can trace and capture Evans, but, after many attempts, arrest him and send him to jail. But he’s outsmart at this point too. Indeed, the prison officers are none other than his disguised friends. Evans escaped yet again due to the Governor’s carefree attitude. He’s got the final laugh.

5) What did the Detective Superintendent inform Governor about Evans? 

Answer: The governor told Detective Superintendent Carter to take him to catch Evans with McLeery. Carter informed the governor of Evans being spotted by McLeery along the Elsfield Way. At the Headington Roundabout, they chased him but lost track.
