Biodiversity is immensely rich in wildlife and cultivated species, diverse in form and function but closely integrated in a system through multiple network of interdependencies. Hence, biodiversity is important for human lives.

1. i) Describe how communities have conserved and protected forests wildlife in India?

The significance of conservation for the Long term survival of protected forests wildlife in India is Very Important. Local communities are contributing significantly in conservation at many places. Conservation of specific animals, which were gravely threatened, including the tiger, the one-horned Rhinoceros, the Kashmir stag or hangul. Most recently the Indian elephants, black buck(chinkara), the great Indian bustard (Godwan) and the snow leopard have been given full or partial legal protection against hunting and trade throughout India. Chipko movement is another example of community initiative in conservation of forests.

Conservation strategies are not new in our country. In some areas of india, local communities are struggling to conserve these habitats along with government officials, recognising that only this will secure their own long term livelihood. Good practices towards conservation of forest and wildlife should include an collaboration of all stake holders such as Government agencies, local inhabitants, industrialists. Government should formulate rule and regulation of conservation of forests and wildlife.
