It is likely that someone who is original and intelligent does not do very well in school. Such a learner should not be called a failure because everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Those who are academically talented do well in other fields. Hafiz Contractor was not a very good student. However, he had a talent for construction, and he is now one of the leading architects. Each person has their own individual talents, which may or may not appear in academic reports. So students should be encouraged to show their talent, and work on them. They should not be called failures.

Hafeez Contractor wanted to join the police force. Why didn’t he?
Answer:
Heffiz Contractor did not join the police force as his mother told him. His mother asked him to do his graduation.
Question 2:
In the architect’s office, Hafeez Contractor was advised to drop everything and join architecture. Why?
Answer:
When Hafiz was in the contract architect’s office, he saw someone pulling a window detail. They told her that her drawing was wrong, and that the window she had drawn would not open. Later, it was found that the drawing was indeed incorrect. Seeing this, her cousin’s husband asked her to draw some specific things, which she did immediately. He then asked her to design a house and she also completed it. His ability to architecture was clearly visible from these events. Thus, they were asked to give up everything and get involved in architecture.

Answer:
(i) Mrs Gupta, who was a teacher of Hafiz Contractors in second and third grade, advised her to become an architect when she grew up.(ii) He always told her that he was quite useless in everything except his drawings, which were always very good. Therefore, he advised her to adopt architecture.

When his fellow students lost a button, he helped them by cutting a button from chalk, by using a blade.

Which rules did he break as a school boy?
Answer:
As a schoolboy, he was more interested in things other than academics. If it started raining outside, he would think about the running water, and how a dam would be built to block it. They thought about the flow of water within the dam, and how much water the dam would be able to hold. He was only interested in sports, running around and playing jokes and pranks on others. He copied in class during the exam. He would grab the examination paper he had prepared and study it because he could not remember the things he had been taught in class.

Answer:
(i) He said that putting design, construction, psychology and sociology together, and making a sketch from all that is ‘mathematics’.
