Why is the Giant called selfish?

Answer:

The giant is called selfish because he did not let the children play in his garden. He drove them out, built a high wall around his garden, and put a board that said esp trapseppers would be prosecuted. ‘

What are they referring to in both the cases?

Answer:

In the first case, he is referring to the Giant Garden where he will play while returning from school. Whenever they used to play in the garden, they had a great time.In the second case, they are referring to the garden again; How happy she was to talk to Vishal in front of him about stopping him from playing in his garden.In both cases, children are referring to the Giant’s Garden.

Question 3:

(i) When spring came, it was still winter in the garden. What does winter stand for or indicate here?

(ii) Winter has been presented like a story with its own characters and their activities. Describe the story in your own words.

Answer:

(i) In the story, Winter stands for a negative, desolate and lifeless atmosphere. In this environment, trees and flowers do not bloom. Here, there is also an atmosphere of depression and laziness in winter. Since the birds did not sing, the children did not play and did not go to the spring garden, staying in the garden longer in winter.(ii) When spring came, birds did not sing because there were no children. The trees did not even blossom. In one particular example, a flower lifts its head out of the grass. However, when it saw the notice board by Vishal, it was tragic and regrettable for the children, got back inside the grass, and went off to sleep.On the other hand, snow and frost were very happy. While snow covered the grass, frost fell on all the trees. He invited North Wind to be with him, and later even Hale was asked to leave. The hail ripped the roof of the palace every day until something broke from it, and then it started running fast again in the garden.

Question 4:

Was the Giant happy or sad over the state of the garden?

Answer:

The Giant was sad over the state of his garden. He could not understand why spring was so late in coming.

Question 5:

What effect did the linnet’s song have over Hail and the North Wind?

Answer:

When the linnet sang, the Hail stopped dancing over his head, and the North Wind stopped roaring.

The little child’s hands and feet had marks of nails. Who does the child remind you of? Give a reason for your answer.

Answer:

The child reminds of Jesus Christ. When Vishal met the young child for the second time, he noticed fingernails on his palms and feet. When Christ was crucified, nails were dug in his palms and feet. He sacrificed his life for humanity so that the sins of the world are washed away. So the child told Vishal that they were wounds of love.

Question 2:

Is there something like this garden near where you live? Would you like one (without the Giant perhaps) and why? What would you do to keep it in good shape?

Answer:

(i) The Giant saw a most wonderful sight. What did he see?

(ii) What did he realise on seeing it?

Answer:

(i) The giant saw that the children had entered the garden through a small hole in the wall, and were sitting on the branches of the trees. There was a child on every tree. The trees had covered themselves with blooms as they were happy to have the children back. Birds were flying and chirping happily, and flowers and grass were laughing loudly.(ii) He felt that Vasant did not come to his garden because he prevented the children from playing in his garden. He felt that he was selfish for not allowing children to play in his garden.

Question 2:

Why was it still winter in one corner of the garden?

Answer:

In one corner of the garden, there was a tree covered with frost and snow. The north wind was blowing and roaring from above. A small boy stood in front, but could not reach his branches. As a result, there was still winter in this part of the garden.

Question 3:

Describe the first meeting of the little boy and the Giant.

Answer:

The first meeting of the little boy and Vishal was under a tree covered with frost and snow. Vishal took her gently in his hands and put him in the tree. Once the tree blossomed, and the birds came and started singing on it. The boy stretched out his two hands slightly, flung them round the neck of the giant, and kissed him.

Question 4:

Describe their second meeting after a long interval.

Answer:

Their second meeting was after a long hiatus; Winter morning The giant was surprised to see that there was a tree in the farthest corner of the garden, covered with beautiful white flowers. Its branches were golden, and the fruits of silver fell below them. The little boy stood under him. The monster turned towards him in great bliss. As he approached the child, his face turned red with anger when he noticed that there were nail marks on his palms and feet. Vishal asks the little boy who injured him, and tells him that he will kill the one who did so. The child replied that they were wounds of love. Kneeling in front of the small child in awe, Vishal asks him who he is. The child smiled upon seeing Vishal, and told him that since he had once let her play in his garden, that day he would come with her to her garden, which was heaven.

Question 5:

The Giant lay dead, all covered with white blossoms. What does this sentence indicate about the once selfish Giant?

Answer:

The white flowers covering the giant indicate that he was no longer selfish. He understood what he meant by not allowing children to play in his garden. He had realized his mistake, and had been kind to children since then. Therefore, when he died, his body was covered with white flowers.
