Answer:

Initially, when Anil offered to educate him, he thought of it as a bright prospect for himself. He knew that once he could write as an educated man, there was no limit to what he could achieve in his field. For him, the motivation behind being educated was robbing people. However, later, when he stole Anil’s money and then missed his train in which he must have survived, he found out that he had completely forgotten about the entire sentence that Anil promised to teach him to write. He thought of being educated in a different light. He thought that stealing and getting caught was a simple thing, but being a really smart and respected man was something else. He was inspired by Anil’s trustworthy and simple nature. The motivation to earn someone’s trust and be respectable returned him to Anil.

Why does not Anil hand the thief over to the police? Do you think most people would have done so? In what ways is Anil different from such employers?

Answer:

Anil does not hand over the thief to the police as he realizes that Hari had learned his lesson and changed for the better. Otherwise, he would never return and keep the money in the same place from where he stole it. Anil also knew how Hari cheated on him in one day while buying the day’s supplies. But he never said anything to her. This is a case where most people would have handed him over to the police. Anil differed from such employers as he was a modest and reliable man. He offered to teach Hari how to cook and educate him. When he finds out that Hari has stolen the money, but has held it back, he knows that it was Hari’s conscience that made him do it. Hari could easily run away with money, but he did not. This gave Anil another chance and made him a better person, which he could already see becoming.
