Important Facts about the National Awards:
- Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award given in India. It was instituted in the year 1954& any person without any discrimination is eligible for this award.
- The first recipients of the Bharat Ratna were politician C. Rajagopalachari, philosopher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and scientist C. V. Raman, who were provided with this honour in 1954.
- Lal Bahadur Shastri became the first individual to be honoured with Bharat Ratna posthumously.
- Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest recipient of Bharat Ratna till now. He was awarded with Bharat Ratna in 2014.
- Most recent recipients- Madan Mohan Malaviya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee (In 2015)
- There are two non-Indians who got Bharat Ratna till now. They are Pakistani national Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and former South African President Nelson Mandela.
- Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award given in India. It was instituted in the year 1954.
- Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award given in India. It was instituted in the year1954.
- Padma Shri is the third highest civilian award given in India. It was instituted in the year 1954.
