International Yoga Day 2021 – June 21 – Theme, History, and Celebrations

 

International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide on 21 June.  World Yoga Day is a gift to the world given on 21 June 2015 by India. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 the idea celebrates the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere on 21 June as International Day of Yoga. Out of 193 member countries of the United Nations, 177 co-sponsor countries approved the proposal of celebrating World Yoga Day.

From the standpoint of Yoga on 21 June, the end of summer has special significance. The practice of yoga can trace the time of Lord Shiva, also known as Adi Guru – Guru (teacher) to all yogis in the world. It is believed that Lord Shiva became the first guru of yoga to spread the knowledge of yoga to the world at the end of summer. Guru Purnima is the first full moon after the end of summer.

In pre-Vedic times, yoga is said to have been a part of the lifestyle of Indians. Maharishi Patanjali organized yoga posters and exercises in Yoga Sutras.

In 1893, Swami Vivekananda introduced yoga to the West by addressing the World Religious Parliament in Chicago.

Yoga is an important part of Indian culture and civilization. Yoga practice is not only beneficial for the body; it creates harmony between mind and soul by breathing.

In 2015, June 21, the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, was recognized by the United Nations as International Yoga Day, which is believed to give the world the knowledge of Shiva Yoga.

June 21st is “Yoga for Well-Being,” which is particularly important for our times in a society still recuperating from the effects of the coronavirus illness (Covid-19) epidemic.

The acceptance of 21 June as International Yoga Day was a historic moment. Addressing UNGA, Prime Minister Modi said, “For us in India, respect for nature is an integral part of spirituality. We feel that the blessings of nature are sacred. Yoga is a useful gift of India’s ancient heritage. Yoga is a symbol of unity of mind and body; Thoughts and actions; Moderation and perfection; Harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and wellness. It is not about exercise, but about harmonizing with the world and nature, by ourselves. It will help change our lifestyles and raise awareness, combat climate change and improve our well-being.”

Yoga is a movement that has grown in popularity over the years, and it has become a trend-setter in terms of preserving both physical and mental health. Each Yogic activity aids in the development of flexibility, strength, balance, and harmony. This practice is dedicated to assisting people in embracing, practicing, and enjoying life on a daily basis.

The current return of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased people’s fear and anxiety. Disease and solitude have an impact on a patient’s physical health as well as their psychological and emotional well-being (and even that of his family members). In light of this, the Ayush Ministry has compiled physical and psychological well-being guidelines.

 

ABOUT YOGA DAY

The first International Yoga Day was held at Raj path in India in which Prime Minister Modi attended and participated in 21 yoga asanas with guests from 84 countries. Event India achieved two Guinness records – one of the world’s largest yoga classes with 35,985 people and the other representing 84 nationalities.

The idea of ​​yoga comes from the Upanishads to transform human consciousness through continuous training of body and senses. The body is the vehicle for realizing the Supreme Being.

Perhaps the development of yoga can provide us with an alternative world view to change human society.

Although the term Yoga was first mentioned in Rig-Veda, its philosophy, science, and grammar were first given in the Patanjali Yoga Sutra. It is interesting to note that yoga is widely accepted worldwide today. The Polish government celebrates International Day of Yoga; special efforts are being made to make the event a success at Aligarh Muslim University.

Yoga was taken by Indian gurus. He started centers where people practice yoga and understand its benefits. However, the popularity of yoga has generated a massive turnover of around $ 40 billion. As yoga is gaining in popularity, it is bound to increase.

 

It’s all one

Yoga is beyond physical health and material wealth. Man’s personality is more than just a body; It is mind, intellect, and soul. Yoga tries to mix them all together. In this process, the individual is able to recognize the unity between who I am, who I am, universal or cosmic consciousness, which is usually defined as a healthy body, sharp intellect, and individual consciousness.

Yoga means to join. Its ultimate aim is to experience the unity of individual and universal consciousness. Yoga teaches us to recognize the basic unity between humans, humans, and the environment and ultimately the interrelation of everything. The essence of this realization is to experience everything as one. What we do, why not it does is a holistic or holistic view.

As a physics teacher, and as an innovator for holistic education and the overall development of the world, I am in the field of education. I was inspired by Upanishadic thought and literature. I am thrilled with the modern development of physics which seems to us to take back the ancient truths found in India long ago.

A new view of reality originates from new physics. As we know, old physics was automatic; we were the great men of Isaac Newton. This is consistent with that mechanical philosophy, but in a larger mold, we had a dualistic philosophy that divided the world into two components: the world of matter and the world of the mind. Descartes was the greatest figure in this philosophy.

 

 

WHAT YOGA TEACH US?

Globalization, based on an automated world view, seeks to integrate countries by imagining the world as a market. The recent experience of attempting to integrate the economies and technologies of countries rather than creating any global consciousness has become divisive, exclusive, and divisive, and has not helped resolve any conflict. Instead of harmonizing conflicts, market forces deepened blame lines. This created a world of imbalance. Restoring balance on the planet is a major challenge. Enlightened global minds have to think of an alternative model.

Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, “We should do this [yoga] before all the talks so that we can keep a calm mind.” This suggests that some meaningful thinking has begun. If international negotiations can be based on sound principles with a calm mind, then it can be argued that the United Nations can use its time for good. If such and pervasive practices are followed, perhaps a new culture of world affairs and international relations will develop in the future. There is a growing awareness that the current imbalance is a result of the inability of existing socio-economic institutions and the political structures to cope with the current crisis created by the inadequacy of an old model and ideas of the universe. All problems with technology can be solved. Perhaps a new paradigm is needed.

Is it possible, through the synthesis of yoga and science, that an alternative worldview can be devised to transform human society into a non-violent, environmentally friendly, non-violent, egalitarian and inclusive secular family? Enlightened global minds should seriously consider such a possibility. In addition to emphasizing the common benefits of yoga, International Yoga Day should be used to think about how to achieve a peaceful transition to peace, harmony and happiness.

The sixth edition of World Yoga Day will focus on yoga at home with family members. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated “My Life My Yoga” in his Mann Ki Baat on Yoga Day. He encouraged people to stay active during the coronavirus lockdown.

Because of the coronavirus epidemic, International Yoga Day will be celebrated at home. Prime Minister Modi, who launched a video blogging contest, invited citizens to participate and post their videos. The ‘My Life, My Yoga’ competition is a joint effort of the AYUSH Ministry and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

The purpose behind this program is the evolutionary impact of yoga on the lives of individuals and it is one of the activities associated with International Yoga Day, officials said. The competition is live on the social media handle of the Ministry of AYUSH.
