International Literacy Day (8th September)

International Literacy Day (8th September)

The literacy rate relates to the capacity to read and write adequately. Many variables can lead to these levels, such as accessibility and quality of education.

One of the keys to measuring socioeconomic progress is the rate of literacy. Population aged 7 years and above is taken into consideration in calculating efficient literacy rates. At the moment of independence, India had a literacy rate of around 12% and has now achieved a literacy rate of 72.99% as per the 2011 census through multi-tier attempts. However, the current literacy rate of India is still way below the world average of 84%.

Global literacy levels have risen considerably over the previous several decades. The primary reasons for this upward trend stem from the evolution of many developing countries ‘ education systems and enhanced recognition of the significance of education for these communities in their respective institutions. Nevertheless, many countries are struggling to provide instructional resources to improve their populations to build the needed infrastructure and ensure that students are regularly enrolled in their schools. However, even those nations that are well behind worldwide standards understand how essential it is to provide the masses with a high-quality education to compete and succeed in the worldwide market.

According to the latest census
Literacy rate of India is 74.04 % whereas the world average literacy rate 86.3%.
