International Labor Day (May Day) – May 1^st 2020

Labor Day or International Workers Day is celebrated every year on May 1^stm to commemorate the working class and workers around the world. Socialists and labor unions celebrate this day by organizing programs to improve the wages and working conditions of workers. Workers’ Day may be a legal holiday in additional than 80 countries.

India had about 487 million employees in 2012, making it the second-largest employer after China. 94% of them work in unorganized, unorganized enterprises ranging from pushcart vendors to door-to-door diamond and gem polish operations. The organized sector includes workers in government, state-owned enterprises and private sector enterprises. In 2008, 27.5 million workers worked in the organized sector, of which 17.3 million were employed by the government or state-owned enterprises.

Why do we celebrate Labor Day?

Before the arrival of Labor Day, death, injury and dangerous working conditions were very common among the working class globally. In the wake of industrialization, the 19th century allowed America to exploit the working class and allow it to work for 15 hours a day under harsh conditions.

The increasing death of workers in industries has forced the working class to raise their voice for safety. Following the efforts of workers and socialists, the American Federation of Labor announced an eight-hour legal time for workers at the National Conference in Chicago at the end of the 19th century.

Workers ‘Day, the workers’ anniversary and their achievements, emerged as one of the most disappointing chapters in American labor history.

In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked seven days a week, seven days a week, to live a basic life. Despite the ban in some states, children under the age of 5 or 6 earn part of their adult salaries in mills, factories and mines around the country.

People of all ages, especially the very poor and recent immigrants, face unsafe working conditions and lack clean air and sanitation facilities.

The agricultural sector has grown and become more important and stronger as the wellspring of American labor and labor unions, which first appeared in the late 18th century. They started organizing strikes and rallies to protest against the worsening situation, forcing employers to pay for hours.

During this period, many incidents became violent. Many Chicago policemen and activists were murdered, including the infamous Haymarket Reit of 1886. Others practiced long traditions: On September 5, 1882, 10,000 employees marched from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, organizing the first Labor Day parade in United States history.

The concept of “worker leave”, observed on the first Monday in September, has spread to other industrial centers in the country and several states have passed legislation recognizing it. Congress will not be a defining moment in American legal history until after 12 years when the rights of workers are brought to the public notice. On May 11, 1894, the employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago went on strike to protest salary cuts and the expulsion of union representatives.

Eugene V. on 26 June. The American Railway Union, led by Debs, called for a boycott of all Pullman railway cars in view of nationwide traffic. To break Pullman’s strike, the federal government sent troops to Chicago, sparking a riot wave that killed more than a dozen workers.

India’s first Labor Day was celebrated in Madras in 1923 and is now known as Chennai.

The Labor Farmers Party of India held its first ceremony on Marina Beach, Chennai. The red flag, which was synonymous with May Day in India, was first used in this festival. Over time, the holiday – also known as International Labor Day or Cougar Day – has spread to other parts of the country.

Labor Day History

In India, Mazdoor Day or May Day was first celebrated on May 1, 1923 in Chennai (then known as Madras). The project was launched by the Labor Farmers Party of India. Comrade Singaravelore, the leader of the party, held two meetings to commemorate the occasion.

A meeting was held at Triplicane Beach and another was on the beach in front of the Madras High Court. The government passed the Singaravelar resolution at the meeting and declared May Day or Labor Day as a national holiday. He also stressed the need for non-violence within a political party. The first red flag was used in India.

On May 1, 1923, prominent Communist leader Malayapuram Singaravelu Chettiar raised the Red Flag in Chennai and initiated Communism in India. The day also marks the introduction of May Day celebrations. To commemorate the occasion, Singaravelar held two meetings, one in Triplicane and the other in front of the Madras High Court. The Singaravelar resolution was passed at a meeting to clarify that the government should declare a national holiday on Labor Day (May 1) in India.  He also reseeds on the need for non-violence within a political party. For the first time in India, using red flags, he established his own party – The Labor Farmers’ Party of Hindustan. Although his party died within the next two years, the country celebrates May Day to honor the efforts of workers.

In the wake of this large-scale unrest, and in an effort to improve relations with American workers, Congress has granted Labor Day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. It was signed into law by President Grover Cleveland on June 28, 1894. More than a century later, it remains to be recognized as the true founder of Labor Day.

The American Federation of Labor Cofounder McGuire and others have commented that Matthew McGuire, the secretary of the Union Labor Union, was first granted leave.

Labor Day Celebration in India

It is celebrated as Labor Day not only in India but all over the world. This is when working men and women take part in processions to protect their rights and their interests. As the various trade unions and trade unions come to their booths, the proposed economic reforms will come into effect in a short time. In addition to the processions, you will find that children are organized to participate and understand the bonds of solidarity. In this way, children can understand the power of unity that is the essence of the processions that are part of the Labor Day celebration.

Apart from processions, leaders of various political parties hold public speeches to celebrate May Day. Today is the day when Maharashtra and Gujarat became part of the state after the partition of the former Bombay state on the basis of language. Therefore, May Day is celebrated in Maharashtra and Gujarat in Maharashtra and Gujarat respectively.

Labor Day is a special occasion where people from all over the world celebrate the true spirit of the working class. The day when activists show their strength together shows how effectively they can fight to bring about positive reforms for the working class in society.

May Day is synonymous with the struggle and continued empowerment of workers within the late 19th century.

Instead of violating the 16-hour workday, a police team shot and killed two workers who demanded an 8-hour workday. After the infamous killing of peaceful protesters, more activists joined the protest. it had been only in 1916 that the U.S. began accepting eight hours of labor .

However, the people of India started the Labor Kisan Party of Hindustan from May Day , 1923 and arranged the Comrade Singaravelar Program. consistent with the government’s proposal, everyone should be granted national leave on Labor Day. Since then, May Day is widely known per annum.

Speeches and cultural events delivered by union leaders are common lately. Schools, colleges and offices are usually closed lately.
