Reasoning Symbol Coding Questions for IBPS PO & CLERK
IBPS Clerk Online Classes : Symbol Coding is one of the important topics from which you can expect 2-5 questions in the Preliminary examination of clerical as well as PO level exams. This topic is not so difficult but you have to carefully read all the conditions given to the problems so that you can solve all the problems easily.
Let us look at the following set of problems:
Directions (1-5): In each of the questions given below, a group of letters followed by four combinations of digits/symbols numbered (a), (b), (c) and (d). Your job is to find out which of the combinations correctly represents the group of letters based on the following coding system and mark the answer accordingly. If none of the four combinations correctly represents the group of letters, mark (e), i.e. ‘None of these’, as your answer.
Conditions:
1) If the first letter is a consonant and the last letter is a vowel, then their respective codes are to be interchanged.
2) If both the first and the last letters is a vowel, then both of them are to be coded as &.
3) If both the first and the last letters are Consonant and in between if there are two or more vowels, then all those vowels are to be coded as 0.
4) If the first letter is a vowel and the last letter is a consonant, both of them are to be coded as the code for the consonant.

- As the first letter is a vowel and the last letter is a consonant, we will code both of them as the code for the consonant.
So, code for EFHKLB will be *7963*

- As both the first and the last letters are Consonant and in between, there are two vowels, then we will code all those vowels as 0.
So, code for FTAMIR will be 7$0802

- As both the first and the last letters are Consonant but in between, there are no vowels, so we will code the letters according to the digits/ symbols given in the table.
