GLOBAL HAND WASHING DAY – WHEN & HOW TO WASH YOUR HANDS?
October 15 is Global Hand Washing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the importance of hand washing with soap as an effective and cost-effective way to prevent disease and save lives.
World Hand Washing Day provides an opportunity to design, test and revitalize creative ways to work with people who occasionally work with soap.
COVID-19 is a reminder of an infectious disease, and the simplest and most effective way to prevent the spread of the virus is simple: hand hygiene, especially by washing your hands with soap. In order to overcome the virus today and ensure better health outcomes beyond contagion, hand washing with soap should be a priority now and in the future. This year’s Global Had Washing Day Theme of hand hygiene for all is calling for universal community hand hygiene.
Prevention is better than cure. The first step in preventing disease is to maintain good hygiene. Today, October 15 marks World Hand washing Day, which raises awareness of the importance of hand washing with soap – an effective and cost-effective way to prevent disease.
Here are some ways you can change this Global Hand washing Day:
- Wash your hands with soap, especially before eating, cooking, or feeding others.
- Imitate good hand-washing behavior and always remind or help others to wash their hands before eating.
- Make hand washing a part of your family diet.
- Establish hand-washing areas in homes, communities, schools, workplaces and health facilities.
- Promote effective hand washing behavior change in research, policy, programs, and advocacy.
HISTORY OF GLOBAL HAND WASHING DAY
The first World Hand washing Day took place in 2008, when more than 120 million children worldwide washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries. Since 2008, community and national leaders have used World Hand washing Day to promote the importance of hand washing, sink making, and tipping, and to demonstrate the simplicity and value of clean hands. Since then, the development of World Hand washing Day has continued. Global Hand washing Day is supported by governments, schools, international organizations, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies, and individuals.
The theme of World Hand washing Day 2020 is “Hand Hygiene for All”. This year’s theme is a recent global initiative that calls on all people in the community to clean their hands, especially with soap washing. This year’s theme reminds us that we need to work on soap hand washing training for universal access and a healthier future.
Global Hand washing Day is the founding of the Global Hand washing Partnership, an opportunity to design, experiment and copy in a creative way to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.
