Density Of Population:

The number of people living in a unit area is called density of population. The density of population is generally expressed as a number of persons per square km.

The average population density of the world is 51 persons per square km. South Central Asia have the highest population density; followed by East and South East Asia.

The population density in India is 382 persons per square km.

Some areas are very crowded and some are sparsely populated. The crowded areas are south and south-east Asia, Europe, and northeastern North America.

DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION

The pattern of the population is said to be the way in which people are spread across the earth surface. More than 90 percent of the world’s population lives in about 10 percent of the land surface.

The distribution of the population in the world is extremely unequal. Some of the areas are crowded highly and some of them are sparsely populated.

The crowded areas are south and south-east Asia, Europe, and northeastern North America. Only a few people live in tropical areas, high mountains, high latitude areas and areas of equatorial forests.

Many more people live north of the Equator than south of the Equator. Almost three-quarters of the world’s people live on two continents, Asia and Africa.

Sixty percent of the world’s people stay in just 10 countries. All of them have more than 100 million people.
