Class 9 Maths Number System : First chapter of 9 Class Maths is the number system. Numbers are the base of mathematics and very interesting to study and practice. So First, we are going the discuss about types of number.
Types of Number :- Natural Numbers-Natural Numbers are 1,2,3………∞.We can also call them as counting numbers as they are always positive and in increasing order. They are donated by the symbol ‘N’.
Smallest Natural Number-1
Largest natural Number-∞
N = {1, 2, 3, 4…………….∞}
- Whole Numbers:- Whole numbers are all natural numbers +0.They are donated by the symbol W
Smallest Whole Number-0
Largest Whole Number-∞
W= {0, 1, 2, 3, 4…………….∞}
- Integers:-Integers are a combination of all negative numbers and the whole numbers. They are donated by the symbol Z
Smallest Integers =- ∞
Largest Whole Number= ∞
Z= {-∞,-100,-50…-1….0, 1, 2, 3, 4…………….∞}
- Rational Numbers:-Any number which can be written in the form of p/q where
P and q are integers
q≠0
P and q are co-prime that is they have no common factor other than 1
Note:-All numbers can be written in the form of p/q where p and q are integers and q≠0.
Eg- (-45) can be written as -45/1, which suffice all requirements to be an rational numbers)
There are infinitely many rational numbers between any two given rational numbers.

Relation between Numbers
- All the natural numbers are rational numbers.
- All the whole numbers are rational numbers.
- All the integers are rational numbers.
- All the rational numbers are not necessarily the natural numbers, whole numbers or integers.
