NCERT & CBSE Class 7 Science Periodic Table , Elements – Names, Symbols
In CBSE class 7 science new topic is being introduced that is the periodic table. In CBSE class 7 we study what is a periodic table and how it is used?
Let’s start, all matter in our surroundings are made up of basic units known as elements. Originally 1800 only 31 elements were discovered, after that, some advancement in technology in 1865 almost 63 more elements were discovered. Presently there are 114 elements known to us. Out of 114 chemical elements, few of the elements are man-made. Researchers are continuously endeavoring to discover new elements and explore their properties.
When there were only 31 elements, it was comparatively easy to study the properties of these chemical elements distinctively. Presently the number of elements has raised to 114, it would be very clumsy to study the properties of every element individual. So as to ease the work, scientists started thinking about a technique so that the study of elements can be simplified.
They determined to organize the elements in a table according to the information available about the elements and various characteristics shown by them. It was noticed that the elements display periodicity in their properties. Many tables were made to arrange the elements in an ordered manner based on their features to study the properties of elements in a fixed pattern. In CBSE class 7 science we study the elements with the help of a modern periodic table.
The Periodic classification of elements is the technique by which elements are grouped on the basis of their characteristics, i.e. we cache the elements which are the same in one group and the rest of the elements in the other group. Some empty spaces have been left in the periodic table in order that the elements that will be discovered in the future can be placed without annoying the trending periodicity of the elements.
Importance of classification of elements:
- Makes the study of elements easy: Classification of elements in groups gives us a steady pattern in which the elements change their properties periodically. The periodic table formed the study of physical and chemical properties of elements simple, easy and organized. We can go to the group and see the properties of the elements of the periodic table or predict the properties of an element if we all know the characteristics of other elements present in the existing group.
- Helps in discovering new elements: Although there are so many elements which are already discovered, there are a probability that new elements can be discovered. Scientists can take the help of the periodic table and know the trending characteristics grounded on the properties of elements and therefore can identify the new elements with the existing ones.
