Directions (1–5): The bar graph given below represents the number of consumers (in thousands) and consumption of electricity units in five years. Electricity units are given in Lacs while the number of consumers is given in thousand. Read the graph and answer the question.

Bar Graphs Data Interpretation Questions and Answers

Q1. What is the ratio of electricity consumption per consumer in 2012 to the same in 2015?

(a) 39 : 44              (b) 41 : 44                (c) 39 : 29                  (d) 9 : 5                (e) None of the above

Q2. If no of consumers in 2016 is 120% more than in 2011 while the consumption remains same as in 2015, then what will be the impact of no of units consumed by a consumer in 2016 when compared to electricity consumption per consumer in 2015?

(a) + 42 units         (b) + 36 Units          (c) – 36 units             (d) – 42 units        (e) None of the above

Q3. Electricity consumption in 2012 will be approximately how many times the total no. of consumer all over the years?

(a) 3                       (b) 21.5                    (c) 2.5                      (d) 4                       (e) None of the above

Q4. Total no of units in 2011 and 2013 are approximately what % more or less than Total units in 2012 & 2014 together?
(a) 20% more        (b) 24% more          (c) 29% less            (d) 28% less             (e) None of the above

Q5. In which of the following year, the ratio of unit consumption to the no. of consumers is maximum?
(a) 2011                (b) 2015                  (c) 2014                   (d) 2013                   (e) 2012

Sol: 1-5:

S2. (c)

Sol. 2016: No. of consumers = 220 100 [225] = 495 thousand, Electricity consumption = 550 Lacs

Therefore, Electricity consumption per consumer = 550×100000 495×1000 = 111 units per consumer 2015: Electricity consumption per consumer = 550×100000 375000 ≈ 147 units per consumer Hence, the Impact is reduction of 36 units per consumer

S3. (b)

Sol. Total consumer all over the year = 225 + 250 + 300 + 350 + 375 = 1500 thousand Desired value = 325×100000 1500000 = 21.5 times approx

S4. (d)

Sol. Total units in 2011 and 2013 = 650 Lacs Total units in 2012 and 2014 = 900 Lacs Desired value = 250 900 × 100 ≈ 28%approx

S5. (c)

Sol. It is clear from the graph that unit consumption is highest in 2014 while consumers-electricity units difference is maximum as well. Hence, Ratio of unit consumption to the number of consumers is maximum in 2014.

Directions (6 – 10): Study the following bar graph carefully to answer the question below: Number of students studying in various Colleges from various Departments (number in thousands)

Bar Graphs Data Interpretation Questions and Answers
Q6). What is the difference between the total number of students studying in college ‘H’ and those studying in college ‘K’?

a) 16100                   b) 15800                  c) 16300               d) 16700                   e) None of these

Q7). What is the total number of students studying in all the colleges together?

a) 520900                b) 520700                 c) 610200             d) 510800                  e) None of these

Q8). What is the respective ratio of the students from the faculty of Science from college ‘H’ and ‘I’ together to the students from the same faculty from college J and K together?

a) 43 : 45               b) 41 : 43                    c) 45 : 43                 d) 43 : 41                    e) None of these

Q9). The number of students from the Department of Science from college ‘I’ are approximately what percent of the total number of students studying in that college?

a) 34                    b) 37                         c) 29                        d) 31                            e) 39

Q10). What is the average number of students from the department of commerce from all the colleges together?

a) 36825              b) 38655                  c) 35625                  d) 36585                       e) None of these

Solutions:

6.  D) Total students from college H = 127.7 thousand, Total students from college K = 111 thousand Difference = 127.7 – 111 = 16.7 thousand = 16700

7.  B) Total students in all colleges = 520.7 thousand = 520700

8.  C) From college H and I students studying Science = 40 + 50 = 90 From college J and K students studying Science = 30 + 56 = 86 Ratio = 90 : 86 = 45 : 43

9.  A) Total students in college I = 148 Science students from college I = 50 Percentage = 50/148 x 100 = 33.78%

10. E) Total students of Commerce from all colleges = 154.5 Average number of students = 154.5/4 = 38.652 thousand = 38625
