Children’s Day / Bal Diwas is celebrated in India on November 14 to mark birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. He was born on November 14, 1889. Jawaharlal Nehru loved, cared for and loved the children very much, so he called them Chacha Nehru.It talks about children’s rights, care and education, and pays tribute to our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. ABOUT Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru or “Chacha Nehru”

The first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889. He was the first Prime Minister of India to rule the country for the longest time and He was a great follower of peace and prosperity. Pandit Nehru Jayanti is a festival in India. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was famous not only for his political life or national service but also for his children. His love for children was comparable to his love for red roses.

Jawaharlal Nehru also loves children and he always loves to be among them. After India’s independence, he did many good things for children and youth. When he became Prime Minister, his first priority was the education of his children.

To prevent malnutrition in India, school children were provided with basic primary education and food including milk.

According to Nehru Ji, children are the bright future of the country. Only by proper education, care and progress can we give them a new life. Therefore, after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (1964) in his memory, his birthday began to be celebrated in India as Bal Diwas / Children’s Day on 14 November. Therefore, Chacha Nehru’s deep love and enthusiasm towards children is the main reason for celebrating Children’s Day on children’s birthdays. He said that children are the real strength of the country as it creates a developed society in future.

Children’s Day was established in 1925, and in 1953 it was recognized worldwide.

The United Nations (UN) has announced that 20 November will be Children’s Day. Earlier, this Day was celebrated on 20 November in India. But in so many countries it is celebrated on different days. In 1950, Child Protection Day (1 June) is celebrated as Children’s Day in many countries, also known as World Children’s Day.

The first Children’s Day / Bal Diwas was celebrated in India after independence in 1959. After the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, the date of the Children’s Day celebrations was changed from November 20 to November 14 (Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday). Yet many countries around the world celebrate Children’s Day on 20 November.

How is Children’s Day celebrated in India?

Many events are organized across India, including cultural and fun activities. Government, non-government organizations, schools, NGOs, private institutions and many more children are happy and happy to be informed about their rights. The TV channels also offer fun programs for children on 14 November. Parents zealously participate in the event to make their children happy; they distribute gifts and greeting cards to sons and daughters. They go on picnics, take long drives and enjoy the day at the party.

How is Children’s Day / Bal Diwas celebrated in India with orphans and destitute children?

• Right to equal opportunities and facilities for healthy development
• The right to freedom and respect guarantees the protection of children and youth against exploitation
