Are CA Exams Really Tough? How tough it is to clear the CA exams?
About Chartered Accountancy
In India, Chartered Accountancy (CA) is a professional certification in accounting. Every firm has an accounting division that handles areas like auditing, taxation and other financial assessment areas. Chartered Accountants or CAs are qualified professionals who know addressing such areas of the organisation.
Some CAs start their private practice to cater to such needs of several organisations and assist them with maintaining business accounts, filing tax returns, audits of financial statements, among other things.
So no wonder it is one of the most sought after professions in the country, and it is no joke to take up the exams. The CA certification comes with three exams – CA Foundation, CA Intermediate, and CA Final. In this blog, we will discuss how tough it is to clear the exams, provided that your efforts and motivation are at an all-time high!
Are CA Exams Really Tough?
Let’s break it down for you. Most potential candidates are highly motivated at the time of enrolment for the CA certification. But is that the hard part? No, it’s far from it. Exam enrolment is the easiest part of the CA journey, and the rocky path comes after.
As we mentioned previously, there are three exams that candidates must clear to get the CA certification. So it goes without saying that it takes time to get the final certification. Therefore, the hardest part is staying motivated through the entire journey of becoming a CA. The most difficult part of the course is the extensive syllabus that comes with it. So let’s see how difficult it is to become a CA.
How difficult is it to become a CA?
Becoming a certified chartered accountant (CA) becomes difficult because of several reasons:
- Course content:
The course content of each exam is quite a lot, so you can only imagine how much it must be with all the three levels combined. Having said that, the content also requires a great understand and not mere ratta-fication. Subjects like economics, mathematics, law, general management, statistics are subjects that must be understood and vigorously worked upon if a candidate wishes to ace them.
- Language:
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) welcomes students from various backgrounds. However, the exams get conducted in English, and the course content is also available in the same language. So it is only natural that some aspirants face problems preparing in English as not everyone comes from privileged schools.
It becomes difficult for those who learn in Hindi and take their examinations in English.
- Too many coaching classes:
Since the CA certification is widely sought after, there are too many coaching classes in the market to choose from. Each coaching class has its own teaching style, and they all have different approaches towards the curriculum. Most qualified CAs undertake coaching classes based on their learning styles and prescribe them to CA candidates. But candidates must realise that they should take coaching classes that best suit their requirements.
- Rigorous Experience in articleship:
After candidates clear their CA Intermediate exams, candidates are required to receive a 3-year on-the-job training during their articleship under practising CAs or any with CA firms. The idea behind this articleship is for students to apply their theoretical knowledge practically and undergo the challenges of the accounting domain.
However, this also means that candidates need to prepare simultaneously for their CA Final exam while completing their articleship. Sometimes training gets so intense that candidates don’t have time to study for the course.
What is required to become a CA?
CA is not difficult for people who are prepared to commit time, stay motivated, and be passionate about their CA journey. It is safe to say that no great thing comes without any struggle.
Therefore, once a candidate decides to take up CA, they have to put their easy-going lifestyle to a halt during their entire journey. It is extremely crucial to develop a proper study plan and have a steady routine to stay disciplined and focused on your goals.
CA is similar to your employer, who expects you to spend more time in the workplace to keep him pleased. It indicates that the more time and attention you devote to your work, the happier you will be.
Who should pursue the CA course?
The most significant aspect of pursuing the CA course is a passion for the subjects. You must have a strong desire to succeed and a strong liking for the CA curriculum. Since the curriculum is vast, only someone who wants to understand the subjects can pass the exams with complete conceptual clarity.
But one thing to remember is that good discipline with a positive attitude can help you achieve the impossible. And the CA certification is very much possible as long as you stay true to yourself as you prepare for your exams. So put in the effort, and success will be yours.
